6 - Healthy Boundaries

Genesis 2
16. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;
17. "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."
NKJV

When God created Adam, the first man, God put Adam to live in a garden which He had previously made ready to be Adam's home. This was the perfect place for Adam to live: it catered to all the needs that Adam had.
In doing this, the favour of God was being demonstrated in Adam's life.
God then gave Adam a job of great responsibility and also showed him an important part of Adam's purpose in living.

Then God put boundaries on Adam. As humans, we sometimes feel that true freedom comes from having no restraints or boundaries in our lives. We feel that we must be free to do whatever we want to, whenever we want to. Our motto becomes the catch phrase: "If it feels good, do it!"

However, the truth is that if we try to live that way in practice, we end up very confused and unhappy, and by then we find that we have ended up ruining several other people as well as ourselves. This is definitely not FREEDOM.

In fact, true freedom comes from living by God's limits upon our lives. By living within God's limits, we become happy and fulfilled and we are a blessing instead of a blight to those around us.

Are you living by God's limits and boundaries in your life? If you are hoping to have a successful marriage, your lifestyle must be a blessing to those with whom you come into contact on a regular basis.

Prayer:
Father, put the desire in my heart, that I would find out Your boundaries for my life and live by those limits. This way You will cause me to be a blessing to those around me.
Forgive me if I have been living selfishly, only considering myself and my own wishes. I want my lifestyle to please You,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.
